Hard house grew from the gay clubs initially which might go some way to explaining why there's more of an acceptance of females in the scene. In other words, more of an acceptance for the people who are usually marginalised? Hard house has always been a little more camp and accessible than other underground dance music - for example drum and bass is quite openly aggressive I think.

Today's top hard house DJs include Frisky, Cally Gage, Amber D, and loads more... who are hitting the top end of the scale in terms of gigs as their male counterparts do.

Check out my blog as I recently interview Lisa Lashes on there. http://hardhouse.wordpress.com

"But what unites the multitude is the collective experience of being (wirelessly) plugged into the cognitive network of Late Capitalist Labour."
Ooh. Yes. The compartmentalization of work into "physical" or "mental" is so false and simplistic. Just as the so-called mental worker is physically taxed (sitting in a cubicle all day, staring at a computer and the like) so is the physical laborer-- though it certainly helps reinforce justification for their work-horse status by calling what is actually mental exhaustion, "stupidity".

Agreed. It's not enough to characterise the no vote as the electorate throwing the rattle out of the pram, although obviously it the government prefers to treat the electorate as children (why? because we say so. you just have to, that's the way things are. you'll understand when you're grown up), infantile rejectionism is only to be expected. Voting no was an embarrassment given the company it put you in, and there was nothing more deplorable than the whole "Ireland can get a better deal" angle. Not Europe can be better, but Ireland can do better. In a world where countries are increasingly fragmenting into ethnic micro-states, Europe is perhaps the only example of political units trying to reduce balkanisation. It should be extending its redistributive functions and acting as a guarantor of the social rights of its citizens. This notion of looking for a better deals only serves to entrench the featherbedding that has been the curse of the union since day one.

*blushes*, jaysus, thanks!

They'd be fairly popular, not so much in the chart-topping sense, but most people with any interest in Dance or hip-hop stylee music would be familiar with them, and they'd regulars at most of the big music festivals; I don't think I've ever heard them on Irish radio though. That album is well worth a go.

First thing's first: this is beautifully written. Writing about music is a true and unappreciated challenge. Language is such a different medium... it's like cooking a meal in order to express one's feelings on Degas. So, kudos. Secondly, I am really liking your Asian Dub foundation selection. I had never even heard of them until now. Are they popular outside America? If so, we're getting it twisted over here (surprise).
